welcome!
This site is my effort to highlight and introduce in english some of the incredibly inspiring anti-capitalist organizing that is happening in Buenos Aires, Argentina. i am writing to you – to my comrades in struggle and future friends who share a commitment to the steady, historic work of building popular power to overthrow all systems of oppression.
i decided to spend several months in buenos aires in order to learn about the history, theory, and practice of popular education in latin america as a part of my preparation to be a high school history teacher, and to see how the movement that so inspired us in 2001/02 is now organizing itself to confront global economic crisis. as i was getting to know organizers in buenos aires, it was often clear that one of the most useful roles i can play is as a bridge between movements. this website is an attempt to pass along a few of the lessons i've learned. despite obvious differences in political, economic and cultural context between Argentina and other sites of struggle such as the u.s., i hope to spark reflection and conversation abroad about our daily work and long-term strategies. i plan to post:
- a few essays that introduce organizing efforts with some explanation of context
- some translations of key texts i find
- and of course annotated lists of links and videos.
some introduction is an order: i was politicized in feminist and anarchist circles in high school and college in northern california, and have since been shaped by comrades i’ve met through struggles for healthier body image, against war, for union contracts and representation, and for racial justice. in buenos aires i gravitated toward organizations that share a commitment to building a revolutionary mass movement composed of many organizations, each working to win concrete victories and deepen the analysis and capacity of their members; each in communication and collaboration with others as necessary. this prioritization of the broader movement contrasts with the leninist or trotskyist orientation towards building a single revolutionary party. the treelinemedia.com name is just an domain that i already had registered from my work as a web designer.
